Giant Robots Invade F.E.A.R. 2
Monolith infuses horror shooter with mechanised nostalgia.
We’ve seen it teased in previous trailers but, finally, Monolith has given gamers a look at the mech combat part of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. As shown in the video below, the ‘Elite Power Armor’ (EPA) is available in some single-player missions as well as in online multiplayer. Giant robot combat is, of course, nothing new for Monolith, with the inevitable comparisons being made to its much-loved 1998 first-person shooter, Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. This title alternated between on-foot and in-robot levels, with several different models of power armour available over the course of the game.
In fact, the nod to Shogo goes well beyond gameplay, with the EPA made by Armacham Technology Corporation, creator of the Ordog Advanced Series 7 combat armour in Shogo. The EPA is a lot less graceful than the Ordog but packs some serious fire power, which should break up the on-foot gameplay in F.E.A.R. 2 just nicely. As you will see from the video, this is about where the Shogo comparisons end, as F.E.A.R. 2’s mech combat is all about guns and rockets rather than melee and transforming into vehicles.

Now they just need to let me play as a sassy female secret agent from the 60s or an undead cultist with a taste for blood and all my Monolith fanboy dreams will be fulfilled by this game.
