Back to Liberty City in November
New rumors emerge that the Xbox 360 will get new GTA IV content soon.
Little could overshadow the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV earlier this year. Generally, the consensus was that Rockstar delivered big time, and both reviews and sales backed up this claim.
One of the most significant aspects of the launch was that it was the first time the game had not been a Sony exclusive. In what was probably a suitcases-of-cash-driven coup, Microsoft ‘encouraged’ Rockstar to not only bring it out on the Xbox 360, but to develop exclusive downloadable content for the platform.
There really hasn’t been a huge amount of info since then. A dropped hint that it would contain hours of new gameplay has been about the extent of information. We do know it is pencilled in for later this year.
Hopefully this means a new island opening up, and not just more races or car theft missions. When playing the game, the number of shops available seemed artificially restrictive, so an obvious worry is that a large amount of extra content would be more The Sims: Ikea than San Andreas.
So any new info is good info. The latest news depends upon whether you trust another generic webcomic’s blog. The gist of it (without needing to first view the unfunny comic) is that the content is due in November, alongside the pretty significant Xbox 360 Dashboard update. Said content promises 15 more hours of gameplay. Which is nice, but with the clunky dressing room system, this could just mean 200 new outfits to try on.
The info makes sense – the GTA 4 DLC is Microsoft’s big content gun for the end of the year, so packing it in with the Dashboard update would be a great way to make everyone talk Xbox. Let’s hope it doesn’t impact my planned Fable 2 playing time.
